Milton Volleyball on the Rise! Nationally Acclaimed Club Now Here!
Any economics buff will be quick to tell you that as population increase so does demand. Residents of Milton, Ontario can surely attest to this. As one of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Milton has seen a tremendous increase in population in the past decade. As a result, the not-so-small town just west of Mississauga has been the building ground for a plethora of new amenities and services. Some of which include a new library, movie theatres, and the recently completed Toronto Premium Outlet Malls. In fact, it was announced earlier this year that four new elementary schools would be built in the city. Since the completion of the Big Pipe Project, residents of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have been flocking to the town for many different reasons. Never an organization to miss out on a good opportunity, Mississauga’s Pakmen Volleyball Club will follow suit this January as it has just announced the opening of its first ever location outside of the Peel Region – right here in Milton!
Starting January 11th, 2014, Ernest C. Drury Secondary School will be the new location for Pakmen’s coveted weekend programs, some of which include Spikes, Champions League, and Technique Tutoring. Programs will be running every Saturday.
Founded in 2002, the Pakmen Volleyball club has made a name for itself not only in Canada, but across the continent. Since its inception, Pakmen has quickly become Canada’s largest and most diverse youth volleyball club. Pakmen teams have collectively won 12 National Championships, dozens of provincial championships, and have dominated competition in the United States on quite a few occasions. Nearly 2000 participants, ranging from ages 6-18, are enrolled in the club at any given moment. As a result, the western region of the GTA is assuming the position of a volleyball hotbed in a country that has been climbing the global rankings in the sport.
When asked about the new locations in Milton, Pakmen founder Kelly Smith expressed his excitement for the future of the program.
“Almost 400 of our members live in Milton,” says Smith. “We’ve been getting requests for programs ‘closer to home’ for quite some time now. Now that the timing is right, and the demand is there we are able to do this. We know there is a huge interest in volleyball in Milton and we are happy to able to offer the Pakmen brand to the youth of Milton.”
Originally based out of North Mississauga, the club has slowly been branching out to various parts of the city. In the past year beach volleyball courts have been opened at Thomas Street Middle School and programs have begun in Brampton. Setting up shop in Milton had been one of Pakmen’s primary goals for some time now.
“The Milton area has produced stellar players in the past. But those athletes had to venture out to other cities and immerse themselves in the sport. Opening this location will give kids a way to play volleyball right in their hometown.”
So this January be sure to not only make resolutions, but also plans to get involved with Canada’s largest and most diverse youth volleyball club!
